Golden Hurricane hoping to rebound from losses

JONESBORO — Ranked fifth in the state and 174 nationally, the Jonesboro Hurricane basketball team is off to a decent start.

Led by Seniors Desi Sills and Tony Hutson, the Hurricane face Marion tonight in Hurricane Gymnasium.

They have been on a tear the last several games by outscoring opponents, with the exception of Tuesday’s 8-point loss to West Memphis at home.

The Golden Hurricane have fallen short to West Memphis twice, Nettleton and Poplar Bluff in hard fought games.

The goals for the team this year are to have a repeat of last year by winning another state championship, Sills said.

To repeat, Sills and his teammates said they have to force turnovers and play aggressive on defense and out rebound their opponents.

They also believe they have to convert every offensive possession and not give up costly turnovers.

After tonight’s match with Marion, the Golden Hurricane will travel to Valley View on Tuesday for a varsity match against the Blazers.
